Training Calendar & Courses

Class Attendance: No absences will be permitted unless excused by the training coordinator, or her designee, and then only if provisions for makeup exist. Tardiness will not be tolerated.

Photographic/Recording Equipment: Allowed with permission from the training coordinator and / or instructor. No photographic or recording equipment will be used by students.

Tobacco Products: The use of tobacco products including vapes is prohibited inside all training facilities and only allowed in designated smoking areas.

For all officers, jailers and civilians who attend training classes:

• The students issued uniform as worn on duty.
• The student should follow department policy for uniform and grooming standards.
• Long sleeve or short sleeve dress shirts, blouses, polo style shirts with collars. Trousers or slacks, dresses, skirts, or other attire consistent with business casual attire. Blue jeans and cargo pants are permitted, but should be well maintained.
• Footwear will be appropriate for duty, training, safety and/or business professional complimenting the level of dress.

Unacceptable Attire

To maintain a professional learning environment, the following attire is not permitted in law enforcement training classes:

• Absolutely no athletic attire, i.e., no sweats, wind suits, tank tops, muscle shirts, yoga pants, T­ shirts, jerseys, etc.
• Sandals and flip-flop are prohibited.
• Casual tops including T-shirts, tank tops, and sheer or see-through clothing unless layered with professional undergarments.
• Garments showing bare shoulders, such as strapless or spaghetti-strap tops, unless covered by a jacket or blouse at all times.
• Clothing revealing midriffs, cleavage, or overly provocative attire.
• Visible ankle bracelets, toe rings, or facial jewelry (including nose and lip rings).
• Excessive or layered jewelry (“bling”).
• Hats and caps, including baseball caps, inside the building or classroom.
• Footwear such as sneakers, slippers, flip-flops, clogs, mules, sandals, or any shoes without an enclosed heel or heel strap. Outdoor work boots are also not permitted.
• Excessively faded, worn, torn, frayed, or unclean clothing.
• Apparel with offensive logos, markings, or language inconsistent with a professional law enforcement environment.

Exceptions

At the discretion of the instructor over specific training, employees may be directed to wear other attire more appropriate to unusual training activities or conditions such as tactical courses, physical training, self-defense, handgun retention, etc.

• Officers attending firearms training will be allowed to wear comfortable clothing including baseball caps appropriate for the weather conditions.
• You may wear athletic-type clothing, sweat pants, wind / warm-up suits, t-shirts, athletic shoes, etc. for ASP Baton, O.C. Pepper Spray, Defensive Tactics or Taser training.
• Denim jeans may be worn at times but are not encouraged as regular classroom wear. When allowed, they cannot be faded, worn, torn, cut, frayed, or unclean.
• Athletic shoes may be worn at times but are not encouraged as regular classroom wear. When allowed, they must be clean with a new-like appearance.

Prior to enrollment in any Precinct 5 Constable Department training program that provides instruction in defensive tactics, arrest procedures, firearms, or use of a motor vehicle for law enforcement purposes, the person must have on file with the Precinct 5 Constable Department written documentation that they are currently licensed by the commission (TCLEOSE) or documentation that the person:

• Is a legal United States citizen.
• Is not currently charged with any criminal offense for which conviction would bar licensing.
• Has never been on court-ordered community supervision or probation for any criminal offense above the grade of class B misdemeanor within the last ten years from the date of the court order.
• Has never been convicted of an offense above the grade of class B misdemeanor — or of a class B misdemeanor — within the last ten years.
• Has never been convicted of any family-violence offense.
• Is not prohibited by state or federal law from operating a motor vehicle.
• Is not prohibited by state or federal law from possessing firearms or ammunition.

All testing will be proctored by the instructor.

Course records will be kept on file for five (5) years from the date of course completion.
